The True Post (Web News)Calgary residents may soon see an end to water restrictions as crews complete major work on the Bearspaw South Feeder Main, a critical pipeline that supplies roughly 60 percent of the city’s treated water.
Officials have confirmed that the pipeline has been refilled, and if all goes according to plan, pumps at the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant will be turned back on shortly.
Michael Thompson, Calgary’s general manager of infrastructure services, said restrictions could be lifted as early as Thursday, pending water-quality testing to ensure safety. Residents may notice temporary cloudiness once the pumps restart, but the water will remain safe to drink.
City officials stressed that water conservation efforts, including shorter showers and reduced laundry and dishwashing, remain important until the pipeline is fully operational. A planned inspection of the existing feeder main is scheduled for early April, after which restrictions are not expected to be needed until the fall, when the replacement pipeline is connected.
