The True Post (Web News)Air Canada CEO Michael Rousseau has announced he will retire by the end of the third quarter of 2026, concluding nearly two decades in senior leadership roles at Canada’s largest airline.
The company’s board confirmed that Rousseau will remain in his position and continue serving on the board until his departure.
Air Canada has been planning for succession for over two years, with an internal development program in place for high-potential executives. A global external search launched in January 2026 to identify additional candidates capable of leading the Montreal-based airline. Rousseau has also agreed to support a smooth transition after retirement.
Board Chair Vagn Sørensen praised Rousseau’s tenure, highlighting his leadership through the 2007–2008 financial crisis, the COVID‑19 pandemic, the Aeroplan acquisition, and pension plan restorations.
Rousseau’s retirement follows controversy over an English-only condolence video after the Air Canada Jazz crash at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, which drew criticism from Quebec leaders and federal officials. Appointed CEO in February 2021, he succeeded longtime CEO Calin Rovinescu.
