America’s Changing Objectives, Canada Changes Opinion On Iran War

The True Post(Web News) Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has said that his position on war against Iran has changed over time as America’s objectives have gradually become clearer.

In an interview, he said that at the beginning of the war, the nature and scope of the objectives were not entirely clear, but later the situation changed, which led to a softening and change in Canada’s position. When the United States launched operations against Iran on February 28, Canada initially fully supported it, but a few days later the Prime Minister expressed regret that the United Nations was not consulted on this matter, and that this action could potentially violate international law. This change also drew criticism from various quarters, with some critics saying that the government had weakened its principled position.

While others called it a contradictory statement regarding international law. The Prime Minister said that Canada’s position has long been that Iran is a major center of state-sponsored terrorism in the world and that it must be prevented from obtaining nuclear weapons, but he stressed that the method of achieving any goal is equally important and must be consistent with international law. Canada has not been directly involved in the conflict, but the government has indicated that if a lasting ceasefire is established, cooperation could be provided to restore sea lanes in the Gulf. The Prime Minister also emphasizes that there is currently no complete and lasting ceasefire, so Canada is not in a position to take any practical action.
