The True Post(Web News) The United Arab Emirates has crossed a major milestone towards a modern national railway network by launching a regular passenger train service for the first time in the country’s history.
Under this project, different states of the country are being connected to each other through a modern and high-speed railway system, which will provide better travel facilities to the public, while also promoting trade, investment and tourism sectors. The project was formally inaugurated by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan by inaugurating the new passenger railway station in Mohamed bin Zayed City.
Speaking at the ceremony, officials said that this project is an important part of the UAE’s modern infrastructure vision and will help further strengthen connections between different emirates. According to officials, the first passenger train service for the public will be available between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah from June 30, 2026. The travel time on this route has been kept at only one hour and 45 minutes, which will prove to be a more comfortable and efficient alternative to traveling by road.
The initial train fare has been set at 55 dirhams, while tickets for passengers traveling in premium class will be available for 120 dirhams. As part of the expansion of the railway project, new railway stations will also be opened in Dubai and Al Dhaid on September 30, 2026, providing modern travel facilities to millions more people. Similarly, railway service in Al Dhafra, a western region of Abu Dhabi, will be launched in December 2026, while Sharjah’s central railway station will become part of the national railway network in March 2027.
Emirati officials say that the national railway project will not only modernize the public transport system but will also play an important role in increasing trade activities between different states, providing easy access to tourist destinations and creating new opportunities for economic development.
According to experts, the modern railway network will also help reduce traffic pressure on roads, save fuel consumption, and promote environmentally friendly travel facilities. The UAE government is calling this project a key pillar of the country’s long-term development vision, which aims to provide fast, safe, and comfortable travel facilities to citizens, expatriates, and tourists by establishing a world-class integrated transport system.
