Elon Musk’s Wealth Surged by $320 Billion in One Year: Here’s How Much He Gained

Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, saw his estimated wealth increase by approximately $320 billion between July 2025 and July 2026, according to an analysis of billionaire wealth data.

The increase works out to an average of roughly $875 million per day over the one-year period.

The analysis, compiled by financial research firm BestBrokers, compared wealth estimates taken from different points in time from the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires List. The figures were used to estimate how much Musk’s net worth changed over the 12-month period.

SpaceX Valuation Drives Major Increase

One of the key factors behind the sharp increase in Musk’s wealth was the rising valuation of SpaceX, the private aerospace company he founded.

As the estimated value of SpaceX increased, the value of Musk’s stake in the company also rose, contributing significantly to his overall wealth.

A major market development involving SpaceX on June 12 reportedly contributed to a substantial increase in the company’s valuation.

The rise in SpaceX’s value helped push Musk’s estimated fortune to an unprecedented level.

Musk’s Wealth Briefly Surpassed $1 Trillion

During the surge in SpaceX’s valuation, Musk’s total estimated wealth temporarily crossed the $1 trillion threshold.

That made him the first person reported to have reached a trillion-dollar fortune.

However, the milestone did not last. A subsequent decline in SpaceX’s share valuation reduced Musk’s estimated wealth significantly, highlighting how quickly billionaire fortunes can change when they are heavily tied to company valuations.

Musk’s Net Worth Estimates Vary

Different wealth-tracking organizations have reported varying estimates for Musk’s fortune.

At the beginning of August 2026, estimates from major financial trackers placed his wealth at roughly $675 billion to $780 billion.

The Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimated Musk’s fortune at around $777 billion, while the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires List placed his wealth at approximately $744 billion.

The difference reflects the fact that billionaire wealth estimates can change rapidly depending on stock prices, private-company valuations and other asset calculations.

Why Billionaire Wealth Changes So Quickly

Musk’s dramatic rise and subsequent decline in estimated wealth illustrates how closely the fortunes of the world’s richest business leaders can be linked to the value of the companies they own.

A substantial portion of Musk’s wealth is tied to his ownership stakes in companies and other assets.

When the market value of those assets rises, his estimated net worth can increase by billions of dollars. Conversely, a decline in company valuations can result in equally dramatic reductions.

Importantly, these changes generally represent changes in the estimated value of assets rather than cash income received by the billionaire.

Musk Remains the World’s Richest Person

Despite the significant fluctuations in his estimated fortune, Musk continues to rank as the world’s richest person, according to the wealth-tracking figures cited in the analysis.

His fortune remains substantially higher than that of the individuals ranked immediately below him.

With a large portion of his wealth connected to companies whose valuations can change rapidly, Musk’s position on billionaire rankings is likely to remain sensitive to movements in financial markets and changes in the valuation of private companies.

The sharp increase in his wealth over the past year—and the subsequent decline from its peak—once again demonstrates how quickly the fortunes of the world’s richest individuals can change.
