Date: October 8, 2026 The True Post (Web News) —A new study has reported promising developments involving a next-generation weight-loss drug. According to researchers, an injectable treatment known as CBL-514 may help reduce fat in specific areas of the body.
Belly Fat Reduction
The study found that overweight individuals who received the drug experienced a significant reduction in fat around the abdomen over a period of several months.
This development could pave the way for new medical approaches to reducing excess fat in targeted areas of the body in the future.
An Alternative to Liposuction?
According to American researchers, the injection could potentially become an alternative to cosmetic procedures such as liposuction for treating areas of the body where fat tends to accumulate.
However, further research and long-term evidence will be needed before its effectiveness and safety can be established.
Dangerous Fat
Another important aspect of the research was that the drug did not target only the fat located beneath the skin.
Researchers reported a reduction in visceral fat as well. This type of fat accumulates deep inside the abdomen, surrounding important internal organs.
Health Risks
Visceral fat is considered particularly concerning because it is associated with an increased risk of several health conditions, including heart attacks, diabetes and strokes.
For this reason, experts say the potential importance of the drug extends beyond making the body appear slimmer.
70 Per Cent of Patients
According to experts at the University of Alabama, the study found a significant reduction in subcutaneous fat—the fat located beneath the skin—in 70 per cent of patients.
These findings are being viewed as an encouraging early indication of the drug’s potential effectiveness.
Combined With Mounjaro
The study also examined the use of CBL-514 alongside tirzepatide, a medication also known by the brand name Mounjaro.
According to the findings, using the two treatments together was associated with a further increase in weight-loss effects.
Could It Help Prevent Weight Regain?
Researchers also considered whether switching to CBL-514 after using medications such as Mounjaro or Wegovy could help prevent weight from returning.
However, this possibility should not be treated as a confirmed outcome. Further clinical research will be necessary to determine whether the approach can reliably prevent weight regain.
An Expert’s View
Dr Timothy Garvey said patients may also appreciate the visible benefits of the treatment, as reducing the layer of fat beneath the skin could make the abdomen appear flatter.
However, he suggested that the drug’s potential medical benefits may be even more important than its cosmetic effects.
The Potential Health Benefits
According to the expert, reductions in fat surrounding internal organs, improvements in blood pressure and positive effects on cholesterol levels could be more significant for overall health than weight loss alone.
This means the potential value of the treatment may extend beyond improving physical appearance and could also be linked to broader health benefits.
Findings Presented in Milan
The study’s findings were presented at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes in Milan.
The results offer early grounds for optimism about the new treatment. Nevertheless, further research will be needed before firm conclusions can be reached about its effectiveness, appropriate use and long-term safety.
