ISLAMABAD — Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has rejected the election results from 30 polling stations in the recent Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, alleging serious electoral irregularities and calling for an independent investigation and re-polling where necessary.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Bilawal said the party would not compromise on protecting the public’s right to vote and insisted that any allegations of election misconduct must be thoroughly investigated.
Allegations of Electoral Irregularities
Bilawal claimed that video evidence exists showing alleged ballot stuffing and illegal interference at 30 polling stations.
He said no one should be allowed to undermine the democratic rights of voters, adding that the people of Kashmir alone have the right to determine their political future.
According to the PPP chairman, any polling station where the integrity of the electoral process has been compromised should be subject to a transparent investigation.
Call for Truth and Reconciliation Commission
Bilawal proposed the formation of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission involving all political stakeholders to investigate election-related complaints.
He urged political parties to avoid further protests until an impartial inquiry is completed and said that accountability should follow if any wrongdoing is established.
‘Stolen Results Will Not Be Accepted’
The PPP leader stated that while political defeat can be accepted, manipulated or “stolen” election results cannot.
He emphasized that the party’s position is aimed at ensuring transparency and protecting the credibility of the electoral process rather than targeting any specific political party.
Bilawal also called for an impartial investigation to establish the facts and restore public confidence.
Criticism of PML-N Leadership
Bilawal accused leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of attempting to secure political office through alleged electoral manipulation.
He argued that the people of Kashmir expect their votes to be respected and that democratic principles must be upheld.
Chaudhry Yasin’s Constituency Under Dispute
The PPP chairman also raised concerns over the election outcome in the constituency of senior PPP leader Chaudhry Yasin.
He said the party would pursue both legal and political avenues to challenge the disputed results before the newly elected assembly begins its proceedings.
Questions Over High Voter Turnout
Bilawal questioned the reported 99 percent voter turnout at some of the disputed polling stations, arguing that the figures warrant independent scrutiny.
He maintained that public trust in the electoral process can only be restored through a fair and transparent review of all complaints.
Demands Before Second Election Phase
Bilawal expressed hope that the party’s concerns would be addressed before the second phase of the AJK elections.
He warned that victories achieved through violence or alleged manipulation would not gain public acceptance and called on election authorities to resolve all outstanding complaints before the next round of voting.
