Kapil Dev Urges Keeping Cricket Separate from Politics

In an interview to Indian media, Kapil Dev, the captain who led India to its first World Cup victory in 1983, said that cricket should be kept away from political matters. Kapil Dev, while severely criticizing his board and team, said that shaking hands is not a big deal when the government has given permission to play. He said that it is natural for players to have feelings for their country, but these feelings should not affect the game and the spirit of the game. Anything that is not good for the game should be eliminated and taken forward. Kapil Dev said that I have only one request that both the players and the media have the responsibility to keep sports separate from politics. It may be recalled that India won the Asia Cup final by five wickets after a thrilling match, however, the Indian team refused to receive the trophy from Asian Cricket Council Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
