Reuters reported, citing Axios, that an Israeli official said that Iran had fired six missiles at US bases in Qatar. AXIS had earlier also reported that Iran was preparing to fire missiles at these bases. On the other hand, according to Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency, Iran has targeted US bases in Iraq as well as Qatar. According to the British daily Telegraph, Western officials had previously said that the Al-Udeid base, located on the outskirts of Doha, was under threat. This base is the headquarters of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), and British military personnel also serve here.

However, several aircraft have been diverted from the base in recent weeks, as shown by satellite images. Earlier in its report, AFP reported that Qatar had temporarily suspended air traffic across the country, while some Western embassies there had advised their citizens to stay home, a move that came as Iran threatened possible retaliation for US attacks on its nuclear facilities.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry said that the relevant authorities announce the temporary suspension of air traffic in the country’s airspace, which is being done as a precautionary measure in view of the developments in the situation in the region. The ministry added that the authorities are continuously monitoring the situation in collaboration with regional and international partners. Earlier, the US Embassy in Qatar had advised American citizens there not to leave their homes, and other Western embassies had issued the same warning.
Qatar has claimed that its air defense system has destroyed a missile fired at the US Al-Udeid Air Base. Qatar has condemned the Iranian missile attack on the US military base and said that Qatar reserves the right to respond to the attack. Qatar added that there were no casualties in the Iranian missile attack on the US base. It should be noted that the US Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar is the largest US military base in the Middle East.
The air defense system has been activated at the US Ain Al-Sadd Air Base in Iraq, while personnel there have also been instructed to go to bunkers. According to the Iranian news agency Tasnim, the Iranian attacks on the US bases have been named ‘Operation Basharat Fateh’. Iranian security officials have said that the same number of bombs were used in the attack on the US air base in Qatar as the US dropped on Iranian nuclear facilities. The officials added that the US air base in Qatar is located far away from residential areas and civilian facilities and the Iranian attack does not pose any threat to our friendly, brotherly neighbor Qatar.
