The True Post (Web News) — Iran has approved the broad framework of a strategic plan concerning the security and management of the Strait of Hormuz. The proposal includes preventing ships and related equipment belonging to the United States, Israel and certain other countries considered hostile by Iran from passing through the strategic waterway.
According to Iranian officials, the plan is aimed at strengthening security in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf while further organizing Iran’s monitoring and administrative capabilities over the strategically important maritime route.
However, additional legal and administrative steps are expected before the plan can be implemented.
General Framework of the Plan Approved
An Iranian parliamentary committee reviewed the strategic plan concerning security and development in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.
After hearing the views and recommendations of committee members, the general principles and framework of the plan were approved.
Valiollah Bayati, spokesman for the Iranian parliamentary committee, told the Iranian news agency Tasnim that the meeting examined the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz as well as various regional security issues.
He said the main objective of the plan was to strengthen security and development in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.
Proposal to Restrict U.S. and Israeli Ships
One of the most significant provisions of the proposed plan concerns the United States, Israel and certain other countries designated as hostile by Iran.
The proposal would prevent ships and related equipment owned by or associated with these countries from passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian officials argue that these countries have previously used the Strait of Hormuz and other locations in the region for actions against Iran. Tehran is therefore considering tighter controls over monitoring and maritime traffic through the strategic waterway.
According to Bayati, alleged aggressive and what Iran considers unfair actions by these countries against Iran are among the reasons behind the proposed measures.
Why the Strait of Hormuz Is So Important
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime routes. It connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea and plays a crucial role in transporting oil and other energy resources from the Middle East to global markets.
A significant share of the world’s energy supplies comes from Persian Gulf countries, with the Strait of Hormuz serving as a major route for their transportation.
Because of its importance, any new restrictions or regulations introduced by Iran concerning the waterway could potentially affect global energy markets.
Development Comes Amid Rising Regional Tensions
Iran’s announcement comes as tensions between the United States and Iran remain high, once again placing the Strait of Hormuz under international scrutiny.
In recent months, commercial and oil-carrying vessels operating in the region have faced security concerns. Reports of drone attacks involving vessels have also raised concerns about maritime traffic and the security of energy shipments.
Final Approval and Implementation Still Pending
Iranian officials have clarified that only the general framework of the plan has been approved at this stage.
This does not mean that the proposed restrictions have immediately come into force.
Further legal procedures, final approval and administrative steps may still be required before the measures can be implemented. It also remains unclear exactly how broad the restrictions would be and which countries’ vessels or equipment would ultimately be affected.
If Iran gives final approval to the plan and implements it, maritime traffic arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz could undergo significant changes.
