Iran has sent its proposals to Washington through Qatar in an effort to resolve the ongoing nuclear dispute and potentially open the door to negotiations with the United States. However, Tehran has made it clear that formal discussions will only begin if Washington fulfils seven conditions presented by the Iranian leadership.
According to an Iranian official, the proposals submitted to the United States are currently under review. Iran’s demands reportedly include the lifting of US sanctions, the release of frozen Iranian assets held abroad, and compensation for damages suffered during the war.
Iran Insists on Seven Conditions Before Negotiations
Iranian officials maintain that the country’s key demands must be addressed before any diplomatic process with Washington can move forward.
Senior Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei, speaking during a visit to Russia, said Tehran had presented seven conditions to the United States regarding diplomacy.
According to Rezaei, Iran will neither reopen the Strait of Hormuz nor agree to negotiations until Washington takes steps to implement these conditions.
Iran’s position suggests that Tehran wants the nuclear dispute to be addressed alongside broader issues, including economic sanctions, frozen financial assets and compensation for wartime damages.
US Wants Nuclear Issues Included in Initial Talks
Washington, meanwhile, maintains that Iran’s nuclear programme must be included in any initial round of negotiations.
This highlights a significant disagreement between the two countries over the potential diplomatic agenda. While the United States considers the nuclear issue a central priority, Iran insists that its demands must be addressed before formal negotiations begin.
Qatar Steps Up Diplomatic Efforts Between Tehran and Washington
According to the report, Qatar has intensified its diplomatic engagement with Iran over the past week. Qatari representatives participated in two rounds of discussions in Tehran, while a third round was held in Doha.
Qatari officials have also reportedly held meetings with Iranian representatives in Armenia in recent days.
These diplomatic efforts are being viewed as part of Qatar’s broader attempt to maintain communication channels between Iran and the United States and keep the possibility of negotiations alive.
However, Tehran’s seven conditions, its position on the Strait of Hormuz and Washington’s insistence on discussing Iran’s nuclear programme continue to complicate the diplomatic process.
For now, US officials are reviewing Iran’s proposals, but it remains unclear how Washington will respond to Tehran’s demands or whether the two sides will be able to reach an understanding that could pave the way for formal negotiations.
