The True Post (Web News) Israel’s National Security Council has tightened its travel warnings for Israeli citizens living in the United Arab Emirates in light of recent security concerns.
According to Israeli media, the Israeli government has decided to immediately recall most of its diplomatic mission staff from the United Arab Emirates. In addition, the National Security Council (NSC) said in a statement that Iranian-backed groups, including Hamas, Hezbollah and other global jihadist organizations, have stepped up their efforts to target Israeli interests. It has also been feared that Israeli and Jewish citizens living in the UAE may face possible attacks, especially during Jewish holidays and Saturday prayers. Interestingly, the staff to be recalled includes Israeli Ambassador Yossi Shelley.
According to Israeli state broadcaster Kan, corruption allegations have emerged against the ambassador, raising fears of his possible dismissal. The move comes as global pressure on Israel over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is growing, and there are also concerns about possible retaliation from Iran. The situation has been tense since three people were sentenced to death in March following the killing of an Israeli-Moldovan religious leader in the UAE in November 2024. It is worth noting that the UAE and Israel established formal relations under the Abraham Accords in 2020, which has led to a significant increase in the presence of the Israeli and Jewish community in the Emirates. However, new security concerns for Israeli citizens have now created new tensions in relations between the two countries.
