Calgary (News Desk) Low Attendance Attributed to Father’s Day Commitments; Meeting Deferred Until Late August Constructive Discussion Held on Proposed By-law Amendments
The Pakistan Canada Association (PCA) Calgary convened a Special General Body Meeting at the PCA Hall on Sunday. However, due to the absence of the required quorum under the Association’s by-laws, the meeting was unable to proceed with its formal agenda, and members decided to postpone the session until the end of August. The meeting commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by remarks from PCA President Azhar Hanjra outlining the purpose and objectives of the gathering. During the proceedings, a life member pointed out that the number of members present was below the minimum quorum required under the by-laws, making it impossible to conduct official business. Some members also raised questions regarding whether proper notice had been provided to all members in accordance with the Association’s procedures. The administration clarified that notices had been issued in a timely manner and in compliance with the by-laws; however, a number of members were unable to attend due to Father’s Day commitments. Although the lack of quorum prevented the meeting from achieving its primary objectives, members present were briefed on the proposed amendments and recommendations prepared by the PCA By-laws Committee. Participants engaged in a constructive exchange of views and offered several valuable suggestions, which were noted for further consideration. Those in attendance agreed that the discussions surrounding the proposed by-law changes were productive and would help provide clearer direction and better preparation for the next General Body Meeting. It was subsequently decided that the Special General Body Meeting/Annual General Meeting (AGM) would be deferred until late August and that the next session would be organized in a more structured manner with broader participation to ensure that proposed reforms and decisions could be finalized in the best interests of the community. The meeting was thereafter adjourned amicably due to the lack of quorum.
