The True Post (Web News) The Alberta government has announced a new “Alberta Energy Rebate” program to bring the benefits of additional energy revenue directly to the public, under which approximately 3.4 million eligible Albertans will be provided with $100 per person.
According to the provincial government, the program will begin on July 1, 2026, and aims to provide citizens with additional income generated by high oil prices so they can cope with the financial pressures they face on fuel, groceries, utilities, and other household expenses.
Premier Daniel Smith said the impact of high oil prices is not limited to gasoline but also increases the cost of many everyday necessities. He said the Energy Rebate converts additional energy revenue directly into public relief and gives families the freedom to use the money as they need it.
According to the government, residents 18 years of age or older who have filed a 2025 tax return and whose annual household income is $225,000 or less will be eligible to receive the rebate. Applications will be available through a secure online portal starting July 1, with the deadline to apply being September 30, 2026.
Under the program, eligible households of two adults will receive a total of $200, with an additional $100 per person for additional eligible adults or children over the age of 18 living in the same household. The government says the assistance will not be tied to fuel use and citizens will be able to spend it on groceries, bills, rent or other household expenses as needed.
The Alberta government has clarified that those receiving the Alberta Seniors Benefit, AISH, the Alberta Disability Assistance Program and Income Support will be automatically included in the payment. Furthermore, the rebate will not be taxable and will not affect any existing social or federal assistance program benefits.
Finance Minister Jason Nixon said that when oil prices rise, the impact is felt by every citizen, so it is important that the benefits of additional revenue are passed directly to the public. According to him, the energy rebate will provide immediate and reliable financial support to families.
The government says that if oil prices remain high in the future, additional measures will be considered to provide further relief to Albertans.
