Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has approached the Supreme Court over the issue of former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan’s transfer to a hospital, filing a contempt petition alleging that the court’s August 18, 2026, order was not implemented.
The petition asks the Supreme Court to initiate contempt proceedings against those allegedly responsible for failing to comply with the court’s order.
Request for Show-Cause Notices
In the petition filed by PTI, the Supreme Court has been requested to issue show-cause notices to the respondents and individuals allegedly responsible for violating the court’s order.
The petitioners have argued that the concerned individuals should appear before the court and explain why the Supreme Court’s order was not fully implemented.
PTI has also asked the court to declare the respondents in contempt of court and take legal action against them in accordance with the law.
Request to Transfer Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital
The petition also seeks the immediate transfer of Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad.
PTI has maintained that Imran Khan should undergo a medical examination at Shifa International Hospital so that his health can be properly assessed and the necessary medical evaluation can be completed.
The petition asks the court to ensure compliance with its orders regarding Imran Khan’s transfer to a hospital and the provision of the medical facilities he requires.
Request for Judicial Officer to Monitor Compliance
PTI has also requested the Supreme Court to appoint a judicial officer or establish a local commission to monitor the implementation of the court’s order.
According to the petition, such an arrangement would help ensure transparency and establish whether the court’s directions are actually being implemented and whether any obstacles are being placed in the way of providing medical facilities to the PTI founder.
The party has argued that the presence of an independent judicial representative could help ensure transparent monitoring of compliance with the court’s orders.
Petition Filed by Uzair Bhandari and Salman Akram Raja
The contempt petition was filed by PTI lawyers Uzair Bhandari and Salman Akram Raja.
The petition refers to the Supreme Court’s August 18, 2026, order and argues that the court has the authority to initiate contempt proceedings if its directions have not been followed.
PTI has urged the Supreme Court to consider the seriousness of the matter and take legal action against those responsible if a violation of the court’s order is established.
Next Hearing Scheduled for September 16
The Supreme Court has already adjourned the hearing concerning Imran Khan’s transfer to a hospital until September 16.
Through the new contempt petition, PTI is asking the court to take immediate notice of the alleged non-compliance and issue necessary directions to ensure that its previous order is implemented.
The petition also seeks clear directions for Imran Khan’s immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital and for him to undergo a medical examination there.
Dispute Over Implementation of Court Order
At the heart of the matter is whether the Supreme Court’s order was properly implemented and whether Imran Khan was provided with the medical facilities directed by the court.
PTI maintains that all relevant authorities are legally required to comply with judicial orders and that those who fail to do so should face contempt proceedings.
The Supreme Court’s response to the petition will now be important in determining whether its August 18 order was violated and, if so, who may be held responsible.
Following the hearing of the petition, it will become clear whether notices are issued to the respondents and what decision the court takes regarding PTI’s request to transfer Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital.
