The True Post(Web News)The Trump administration has fired more than 1,350 employees at the US State Department after court approval. These include 1,107 civil service employees and 246 foreign service officers who were based in the United States.
The cuts are part of President Trump’s “America First” agenda to streamline the department and eliminate unnecessary, disruptive, or duplicative offices. Some departments, including those dealing with human rights and war crimes, are being closed or USAID is being merged into the State Department.
Observers have expressed concern that the sweeping cuts could weaken America’s diplomatic capabilities, especially amid the Russo-Ukraine war, the Gaza conflict, and Iran-Israel tensions. Democratic senators Tim Kaine and Chris Van Hollen have called them “dangerous” to American security. The
internal State Department statement said the reorganization was being done to focus on more effective diplomatic priorities and to conserve resources. The plan would provide civil service employees with a 60-day notice period, while foreign service officers would be given 120 days of administrative leave.
