The True Post(Web News) The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has warned that new and highly dangerous cases of measles have been reported in the country.
There have been 674 confirmed cases so far in the first few months of 2025, with the highest number of cases in children under the age of ten. The highest numbers have been recorded in London and the North West, with London accounting for around 48% of confirmed cases and the North West for 16%.
Authorities have urged parents to get their children vaccinated with the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine as soon as possible, especially before the new school year and before summer travel. The vaccine, which is given in two doses, is almost 99% effective, protecting not only children themselves but also those who cannot get vaccinated.
Dangerous complications
Measles may initially present with flu-like symptoms, but complications can include pneumonia, brain swelling (encephalitis) and even death. Children, especially the elderly, are more susceptible to such viral infections.
The government’s strategy,
UKHSA, has launched vaccine buses and community sessions in high-risk areas to help more parents feel comfortable getting their children vaccinated, while also sending a message to the public that not vaccinating is not just putting the health of an individual at risk, but of society as a whole.
