The message was written by Lori Blair, who was just nine years old at the time.
In a humorous and imaginative story, she claimed that she had been kidnapped and taken to a remote island by ruthless sponge fishermen, forcing her to dive into shark-infested waters. She jokingly asked anyone who found the bottle to send the letter to her family and “save” her.
Although the note described dramatic events, it was simply the product of a creative child’s imagination.

After discovering the bottle, Couterman shared photographs of the letter on social media, hoping someone might recognize the writer.
Within days, the post spread widely online before eventually reaching Alison Spencer, Lori Blair’s sister. She confirmed that the handwriting belonged to her sister, who had loved creating imaginative stories as a child.
The discovery reunited the family with a cherished memory they never expected to see again.
