Under which now Google account holders will be able to change the primary @gmail.com email address associated with their existing account, that too without the fear of losing any data. Through this new feature, users are being given the opportunity to choose a new Gmail ID in place of their current Gmail ID, while their old data will remain completely safe. According to Google, after this change, users’ photos, emails, chats, files and all other information will remain intact, which eliminates the fear of data loss.
According to technology experts, this update will be especially beneficial for those users who are not satisfied with their Gmail ID created years ago or now want to change it for professional or personal use. Earlier, there was no facility to change the primary Gmail address in the Google account, due to which users had to create a new account.
Google has stated that this new feature is being provided to users in stages (gradually), so it is possible that this facility may not be available to all users at the same time. However, users whose accounts have this option enabled can go to Settings and check its availability in the “Personal Information” section. Another important aspect is that after creating a new Gmail address, the user will not be able to create any new primary address for the next 12 months. However, the old email address can be reused at any time, which provides additional convenience to users.
Google has also clarified that users will be able to easily sign in to all their Google services such as Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube and Google Drive through the new or old email address. This means that this change will not have any negative impact on the functionality of the account and the use of services. Although Google has fully assured that the data will be safe, the company has advised users to make a backup of their account before changing the email address, as some app settings may be reset during this process. Taking precautions can be beneficial for users.
