IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva has lauded the Government of Pakistan for seriously implementing reforms under the IMF program, noting that the positive outcomes of these measures are now becoming evident.
Speaking at the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Georgieva highlighted that Pakistan’s government has adopted reforms diligently, resulting in improved budgetary discipline and resources that can now be utilized to enhance citizens’ lives.
She emphasized the constructive dialogue IMF has maintained with Pakistan over the years and praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his commitment, stating that promises made by the Prime Minister are consistently fulfilled.
Georgieva also appreciated the Prime Minister and his cabinet for advancing difficult but necessary reforms, acknowledging that while these measures can have political consequences, they are crucial for long-term economic stability.
The remarks followed a meeting with Prime Minister Sharif in Davos, where he briefed her on Pakistan’s improving economic indicators, institutional reforms, and steps toward fiscal discipline, revenue enhancement, and sustainable development.
Both parties also discussed the global economic situation, challenges facing emerging economies, and the importance of cooperation for global financial stability.
