The True Post (Web News) – A major mountaineering incident has been reported in northern Pakistan after an avalanche reportedly struck Broad Peak, leaving a team of 10 climbers, led by renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja, missing.
According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP), contact with the climbing team was lost after the avalanche hit the mountain in the Karakoram range. Rescue authorities are working to organize search operations despite difficult weather and terrain.
Avalanche Reported on Broad Peak
The Alpine Club of Pakistan said it received reports that an avalanche occurred on Broad Peak during severe weather conditions.
Following the incident, communication with the expedition team was reportedly lost, and officials have not yet been able to confirm the climbers’ condition or exact location.
Rescue efforts are being planned as authorities assess weather conditions and operational challenges in the high-altitude region.
Nirmal Purja Leading the Expedition
According to the Alpine Club, the expedition was led by Nirmal Purja, one of the world’s most accomplished high-altitude mountaineers.
Purja is internationally recognized for completing all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks in record time and has led numerous challenging expeditions across the Himalayas and Karakoram.
Authorities said attempts are continuing to establish contact with Purja and the other members of the team.
Climbers From Multiple Countries
The Alpine Club said the expedition consisted of 10 climbers representing several countries.
According to preliminary information, the missing team includes:
- Five climbers from Nepal
- One climber from Pakistan
- One climber from Oman
- One climber from China
- One climber from the United States
- One additional foreign climber whose nationality has not yet been disclosed
Officials said all were participating in a climbing expedition on Broad Peak.
Broad Peak Among the World’s Highest Mountains
Located in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Karakoram range, Broad Peak stands at 8,047 meters (26,401 feet), making it the 12th-highest mountain in the world.
The mountain is considered one of the most challenging climbing destinations due to its extreme altitude, rapidly changing weather, avalanche risk, and harsh environmental conditions.
Rescue Operations Being Organized
The Alpine Club of Pakistan said every possible effort is being made to locate the missing climbers.
Officials are coordinating with relevant authorities to deploy helicopters and specialized mountain rescue teams as soon as weather conditions permit.
However, rescue operations at such high altitudes remain extremely difficult because of steep terrain, low oxygen levels, and unpredictable weather.

News of the incident has drawn widespread attention from the international mountaineering community, with climbers and rescue organizations closely monitoring developments.
Many have expressed hope for the safe recovery of Nirmal Purja and the rest of the expedition team.
