The Ture Post (Web News) — Four people were killed and several others injured in a devastating multi-vehicle collision on Stoney Trail in Calgary late Sunday night. The crash triggered a massive fire that engulfed two vehicles, while police continue to investigate the cause of the deadly incident.
Crash Happened Late at Night
According to the Calgary Police Service, officers responded to reports of a serious collision at around 11:00 p.m. on Stoney Trail, just north of 90 Avenue S.W.
Emergency crews, including firefighters and paramedics, arrived to find three heavily damaged vehicles, two of which were fully engulfed in flames.
Wrong-Way Mercedes Caused Head-On Collision
Preliminary investigators believe a 30-year-old man driving a Mercedes-Benz was travelling the wrong way in the southbound lanes when the vehicle collided head-on with a Subaru driven by a 43-year-old man.
A woman and a child were also travelling in the Mercedes at the time of the collision.
Vehicles Burst Into Flames
Police said both the Mercedes and the Subaru caught fire immediately after the impact.
A third vehicle, a Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 52-year-old woman, then collided with the Mercedes, adding to the severity of the crash.
The force of the collision left all three vehicles severely damaged.
Four People Died at the Scene
Authorities confirmed that the three occupants of the Mercedes and the 43-year-old Subaru driver were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not yet released the identities of the victims pending notification of their families.
Several People Injured
The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox and three young passengers were transported to hospital with injuries.
One person sustained serious injuries, although officials said the injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Firefighters Responded Quickly
The Calgary Fire Department said crews encountered an extremely dangerous scene, with two vehicles completely engulfed in flames.
Firefighters worked rapidly to extinguish the blaze while simultaneously searching the vehicles and assisting injured victims.
Investigation Underway
Calgary police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Investigators are examining whether excessive speed, driver impairment, or other contributing factors played a role in the wrong-way collision.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation while the investigation remains ongoing.
The tragedy is being described as one of Calgary’s most serious traffic collisions in recent months, highlighting the devastating consequences of dangerous driving and the importance of road safety.
