Muhammad Amanullah | August 12, 2026 The True Post (Web News) — Pakistan has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating situation in the occupied West Bank and called for immediate and effective international protection for the Palestinian people.
Addressing a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar, said the situation in the occupied West Bank was rapidly worsening and that the Security Council needed to take immediate and effective action.
Situation Deteriorating Rapidly
Asim Iftikhar said that Israeli actions in the occupied West Bank were making the situation increasingly complicated.
According to him, the primary objective of Israel’s unlawful actions is to further consolidate the occupation, which is seriously undermining efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.
The Pakistani envoy said the expansion of Israeli settlements had reached a worrying level and that the establishment of new settlements in different areas amounted to an attempt to divide Palestinian territory.
Concern Over Settlement Expansion
Asim Iftikhar urged the UN Security Council to take note of settlement activities and other measures being carried out in the occupied Palestinian territories.
He said the continued expansion of settlements not only affects the rights of the local population but also undermines the prospects of a two-state solution.
Call to End Settler Violence
The Pakistani representative also expressed serious concern over alleged settler violence in the occupied West Bank.
He called for an immediate end to settler violence and demanded that those responsible for such incidents be held accountable under the law.
He said the international community has a responsibility to protect the lives and property of Palestinian civilians and that simply expressing concern is not enough. Practical measures are needed to address the situation.
Al-Aqsa Mosque Issue
Asim Iftikhar also expressed Pakistan’s serious concern over provocative actions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
He said the status of holy sites and the rights of worshippers must be respected.
He stressed that actions that could inflame religious sentiments or increase tensions in the region should be avoided.
Call for International Protection of Palestinians
The Pakistani envoy called on the international community to provide international protection to the Palestinian people.
He said international institutions must fulfill their responsibilities to ensure the fundamental rights and security of Palestinian civilians amid the current situation.
Asim Iftikhar also urged the Security Council to ensure the implementation of UNICEF recommendations concerning the protection of Palestinian children and civilians.
He emphasized that immediate and effective action by the Security Council is essential to prevent the situation in the occupied territories from deteriorating further.
