The True Post — Kashmiris living around the world are observing India’s Independence Day on August 15 as a Black Day, while Indian authorities have tightened security restrictions across Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
Additional personnel from the Indian Army, paramilitary forces and police have been deployed in various parts of the region, with increased checking on major roads and at sensitive locations.
Kashmiri organizations around the world are holding demonstrations and other activities to protest what they describe as Indian control over Jammu and Kashmir. They are also seeking to draw international attention to the Kashmir dispute and the situation in the region.
Protests Against Indian Control
Kashmiri groups maintain that India entered Jammu and Kashmir with its forces on October 27, 1947, against the wishes of the Kashmiri people. They say that since then, Kashmiris have continued their political struggle for the right to determine their own future.
Kashmiri organizations refer to United Nations resolutions in support of their demand for self-determination and have called on the international community to play a role in resolving the Kashmir dispute.
They have also urged that the issue be addressed in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
According to Kashmiri groups, decades of conflict in the region have resulted in significant loss of life and affected thousands of families, while the prolonged situation has also disrupted normal life in the valley.
Security Restrictions Tightened
According to the Kashmir Media Service, Indian authorities have increased security measures across the region ahead of India’s Independence Day.
Large numbers of Indian Army personnel, paramilitary forces and police have been deployed at sensitive locations in Srinagar and other towns.
Additional checkpoints have reportedly been established along major highways and entry and exit routes, while security checks have also been intensified at various locations.
Vehicles are being searched, while passengers and pedestrians are also facing increased security checks.

The increased security measures have resulted in additional checks for residents travelling through several areas, while surveillance has been intensified in locations considered sensitive by authorities.
Bakshi Stadium Under Heavy Security
Srinagar’s Bakshi Stadium has also been placed under tight security ahead of the main Independence Day ceremony.
Additional security personnel have been deployed around the stadium and nearby areas. Security authorities are reportedly using drone cameras to monitor the area, while trained marksmen have also been positioned at various locations.
Security checks have been strengthened on roads leading to the stadium, with increased monitoring of people and vehicles approaching the ceremony venue.
Kashmiris Appeal to the International Community
Kashmiris living in different countries are staging protests against Indian control on the occasion of the Black Day observances.
Kashmiri organizations say the Kashmir dispute is not merely a regional issue and have called on the international community to play a role in finding a solution.
They are demanding implementation of relevant United Nations resolutions and the right of the Kashmiri people to determine their political future.
Kashmiri groups have also urged the international community to take note of the situation in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir and take practical steps toward addressing the demand for self-determination in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions.
They argue that a fair and lasting resolution to the Kashmir dispute is essential for achieving lasting peace in South Asia.
