Canada has announced nearly C$500 billion in investment commitments aimed at strengthening business activity, supporting economic growth and expanding opportunities across key industries.

According to the Canadian government, the commitments were announced during the country’s first Canada Investment Summit, held in September 2026. Investors from approximately 30 countries participated in the event, which focused on attracting capital for major projects and supporting Canada’s long-term economic development.

Major Financial Support for Businesses

According to the government’s announcement, major Canadian banks pledged approximately C$325 billion in financing for businesses and infrastructure projects. The targeted sectors include energy, critical minerals, defence, aerospace, digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

TD Bank committed to providing C$150 billion in financing over five years, while Scotiabank announced more than C$100 billion in financial support.

The commitments are intended to help businesses access funding for expansion, infrastructure development and projects that could strengthen Canada’s economic competitiveness.

Technology and Energy Among Key Priorities

Artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, electricity transmission, mining and critical minerals have emerged as major priorities within the investment plans.

The government expects investment in these areas to support business expansion, improve infrastructure and create new employment opportunities. Increased funding for technology and energy projects could also help Canada strengthen its position in strategically important industries.

New Opportunities for Small Businesses

The investment commitments are also expected to create potential opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses by improving access to financing and opening pathways to participate in larger projects and supply chains.

However, announced commitments do not necessarily mean that all the money will be spent immediately or that every proposed project will proceed as planned. The actual economic impact will depend on how these commitments translate into funded projects, business activity and job creation.

As the investment plans progress, their implementation and results will provide a clearer picture of how effectively they contribute to Canada’s economic growth.
