Canada’s Wonderland has temporarily shut down two of its best-known roller coasters, Behemoth and Leviathan, following a fatal incident at Six Flags Over Georgia in the United States. The park has not announced when either ride will reopen.

The decision followed an incident at the Georgia amusement park on Monday afternoon that reportedly left one person dead and several others injured. Both parks are operated by Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, which said it was temporarily closing similar attractions at multiple locations as a precaution.

Canada’s Wonderland is located in Vaughan, Ontario, and is one of Canada’s major amusement parks.

Rides Closed as a Precautionary Measure

Sarah Gorgone, a spokesperson for Six Flags Entertainment, said the company had decided to temporarily suspend operations of certain similar rides across its parks following the incident in Georgia.

According to the spokesperson, Behemoth and Leviathan resemble the type of attraction involved in the US incident. The company therefore closed both rides while taking precautionary safety measures.

Canada’s Wonderland remained open on Monday during Canada’s Thanksgiving holiday. However, Behemoth and Leviathan were shut down during the afternoon, preventing visitors from riding either attraction.

Park officials have not provided a reopening date or released further details about the inspections being carried out.

One Person Dead and Several Injured in Georgia

Details of the incident at Six Flags Over Georgia remain incomplete. Authorities have not publicly identified the person who died, explained the circumstances of the death or clarified how the other people were injured.

Videos aired by local television stations appeared to show passengers being evacuated from a roller coaster called Goliath. However, officials had not formally confirmed that Goliath was the ride involved in the incident.

Goliath opened in 2006. According to the park’s website, the roller coaster can reach speeds of approximately 113 kilometres per hour and stands about 61 metres tall. The ride lasts roughly three and a half minutes, taking passengers through steep drops and high-speed turns.

Previous Fatal Incidents at the Park

According to the Duane Law Firm, which handles cases involving amusement-park accidents, Monday’s incident may represent at least the seventh reported death associated with the Georgia park.

In 2006, a person riding Goliath also died after reportedly suffering a possible heart attack. Further details about the circumstances of that earlier death were not included in the report.

Following the latest incident, Six Flags temporarily closed similar attractions as a precaution. The cause of the Georgia incident, the findings of any safety inspections and the reopening dates for Behemoth and Leviathan at Canada’s Wonderland remain unknown.
