The True Post (Web News)Following an appeal by Fondation Émergence, citizens and various social groups responded in large numbers, showing strong solidarity with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer communities.
On Sunday afternoon, hundreds of people gathered under pleasant weather conditions at Place des Festivals, where a civic march was organized by Fondation Émergence. The event aimed to promote unity and support for communities facing discrimination and rising hate speech.
According to spokesperson Olivia Baker, the purpose of the gathering was to bring together allies who want to stand against hate and deliver a positive message of unity. She emphasized that cooperation and solidarity remain the most effective response to discrimination and prejudice.
This year, the organization highlighted the role of allies in particular, as there has been a noticeable rise in hateful rhetoric, attacks, and negative attitudes toward gender and sexual diversity in recent times.
Fondation Émergence also stated that recent reports show an increase in hate speech in Quebec, which is negatively affecting the dignity, safety, and mental well-being of affected communities.
Executive Director Laurent Breault said that in the current climate, the presence of allies, active listening, and practical support have become more important than ever. He added that even small actions contribute to building a stronger movement of solidarity against growing hate and restrictions on rights.
