The True Post | Weather News: Heavy monsoon rains have swept across Lahore and several cities in Pakistan’s Punjab province, leaving roads submerged, disrupting traffic, and raising concerns over urban flooding as authorities issue fresh weather alerts.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the latest monsoon system is expected to bring intermittent light to heavy rainfall across Punjab over the coming days, increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying areas.
Lahore Records Widespread Rainfall
Continuous rainfall since late night has brought cooler temperatures to Lahore but has also caused waterlogging across several parts of the city.
The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) said emergency teams were deployed immediately to drain accumulated rainwater from major roads and underpasses.
Rainfall recorded across Lahore included:
- Mughalpura: 44 mm
- Tajpura: 38.6 mm
- Johar Town: 26.8 mm
- Chowk Nakhuda: 20.2 mm
- Pani Wala Talab: 19.8 mm
- Lakshmi Chowk: 15.8 mm
Punjab Placed on High Alert
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a province-wide alert as heavy rainfall is forecast in several districts, including:
- Lahore
- Rawalpindi
- Gujranwala
- Gujrat
- Sialkot
- Faisalabad
- Multan
- Bahawalpur
- Rahim Yar Khan
- Sheikhupura
- Kasur
- Narowal
- Murree
Emergency services have been instructed to remain on standby in anticipation of possible flooding and rain-related emergencies.
Urban Flooding and Landslide Risks
Weather officials have warned that major cities such as Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Multan face an elevated risk of urban flooding due to continued heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, Murree, Galliyat, and other mountainous regions remain vulnerable to landslides caused by saturated soil and persistent rain.
Gujranwala Among the Worst Hit
Gujranwala experienced some of the heaviest rainfall, with several neighborhoods and major roads submerged.
According to local authorities, average rainfall reached 140 mm, while the highest measurements included:
- People’s Colony: 171 mm
- Nowshera Road: 151 mm
- Satellite Town: 150 mm
- Alam Chowk: 149 mm
Water accumulated on several major roads, including GT Road, Commissioner Road, Civil Hospital Road, DC Road, Hafizabad Road, and Pasrur Road, affecting traffic throughout the city.
Sialkot Also Faces Severe Waterlogging
Heavy rain in Sialkot flooded low-lying neighborhoods, with reports of water entering homes and commercial buildings in some areas.
Residents criticized drainage systems as emergency crews worked to clear flooded streets.
Traffic Advisory Issued
Lahore Traffic Police have advised motorists to exercise caution while traveling during heavy rain.
Officials urged drivers to:
- Reduce speed.
- Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
- Avoid sudden braking.
- Motorcyclists should wear helmets at all times.
Authorities expect the current monsoon spell to continue over the next several days and have urged residents to stay updated through official weather advisories.
