Environment Canada has issued a thunderstorm warning for Calgary and surrounding regions.
According to meteorologists, 10 to 20 millimetres of rainfall is expected by Monday night, likely tapering off around midnight. However, there is a risk of intense rainfall, hailstorms, and strong winds during this period.
The weather agency has cautioned that current atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms, which may bring damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rain.
Residents are advised to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel. In its advisory, Environment Canada stated:
“When thunder roars, go indoors. Large hail can cause significant damage and injury.”
Thunderstorms forming in the foothills of southern Alberta may also shift eastward. Additionally, dense fog is likely to develop late at night, persisting into Tuesday morning.
The public is urged to keep track of updated weather alerts and strictly follow local emergency instructions if necessary.
