Devastating Floods in Diamer: 9 Dead, Over 500 Houses Destroyed, 27 Bridges Washed Away

The True Post(Web News) Massive floods have wreaked havoc across the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan, leaving a trail of destruction in several valleys, according to official sources.

Government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq confirmed that at least 9 people, including 2 children and 2 women, have lost their lives. Additionally, 10 to 12 people remain missing, and search operations are underway despite difficult conditions.

The floods have caused widespread damage to infrastructure. More than 12 kilometers of roads have been washed away, along with 27 bridges and 22 vehicles. Electricity, water supply, and communication systems have been completely disrupted.

Diamer has been reported as the hardest-hit region, where the popular tourist destination of Babusar has also suffered significant damage. Landslides have brought down large rocks onto roads, injuring several people and cutting off access to clean drinking water.

The disaster has also destroyed over 500 homes, along with numerous shops, livestock shelters, and thousands of feet of construction timber. Rescue teams have managed to evacuate more than 300 stranded tourists and travelers.

However, ongoing landslides and heavy water flow are posing serious challenges to relief and rescue operations. Restoration efforts for power and water supply are in progress, while damage assessment teams have been dispatched to affected areas.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have assured that all possible resources are being mobilized to assist the victims and restore essential services.
