Canadian superstar The Weeknd has achieved another major milestone in his music career, breaking a long-standing touring record held by British singer Elton John.
According to reports, The Weeknd’s “After Hours Til Dawn” stadium tour concluded on Thursday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, after generating more than US$1.3 billion in revenue.
The achievement makes it the highest-grossing concert tour by a male solo artist, surpassing Elton John’s farewell tour, which previously held the record with earnings of more than US$939 million.
Third-Highest-Grossing Concert Tour in History
The Weeknd’s global tour has also secured the third position among the highest-grossing concert tours worldwide.
Only Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” and Coldplay’s “Music of the Spheres” tour have generated higher revenues.
The record-breaking achievement further strengthens The Weeknd’s position as one of the most commercially successful performers in the global music industry.
A Four-Year Journey Across Five Continents
The After Hours Til Dawn tour began on July 14, 2022, in Philadelphia, United States, and continued for more than four years, covering 67 cities across 30 countries and five continents.
According to Live Nation, the tour featured 176 concerts and sold more than nine million tickets.
Its scale and commercial success made it one of the most significant live music events in recent years.
Major Success in Hong Kong
The Weeknd also achieved remarkable success during the Asian leg of the tour, particularly in Hong Kong.
He performed four concerts at Kai Tak Stadium, attracting strong audiences and selling approximately 200,000 tickets.
During the same period, his new song “Hong Kong”, featuring renowned Cantopop singer Faye Wong, was released on October 31.
The collaboration brought together international pop music and Cantonese musical influences.
The Weeknd Supports Humanitarian Causes
Beyond the tour’s commercial success, The Weeknd also contributed substantial funds to humanitarian initiatives.
According to Live Nation, the singer donated a total of US$8.5 million to the XO Humanitarian Fund and Global Citizen during the four-year tour.
Earlier this year, he also allocated US$3 million to the United Nations World Food Programme and initiatives supporting the health, education and economic opportunities of women and girls.
With record-breaking concert revenue, international popularity and significant charitable contributions, The Weeknd has further cemented his place among the most influential and successful artists in the global music industry.
