The True Post (Web News) Freedom Network, an organization working for the rights of journalists, has revealed in its annual report that in Pakistan
Attacks on journalists have increased by 60 percent compared to last year, posing serious threats to freedom of expression. According to the report, 142 attacks and harassment incidents were reported across the country between November 2024 and September 2025**. Most of these incidents came from **Punjab and Islamabad, where journalists faced physical violence, arrests, threats and legal action. Freedom Network says that 36 cases were registered during the first year of the federal government, of which 22 cases were filed under the Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) while **14 cases were filed under the Pakistan Penal Code. The
report also says that the increasing attacks on journalists are a dangerous trend for press freedom and the public’s right to information. According to the organization, pressure on media workers, censorship, and false cases are being used to restrict expression of opinion. Freedom Network has called on the government to take effective measures to protect journalists, prevent misuse of the law against the media, and ensure full implementation of the constitutional guarantee of freedom of expression in Pakistan.
