Sheikha Asma Al Thani recently made history by summiting Nanga Parbat. She became the first Qatari woman to raise the Qatari flag on the summit. This was her ninth time summiting a mountain over 8,000 meters. In a social media post, she wrote that Nanga Parbat was an extremely difficult and dangerous expedition that proved to be physically and mentally challenging for her. She said: “This mountain was a test for me that I did not expect. The snow under my feet and the falling rocks at every moment reminded me of how fragile life is. But even in this danger, I found a new strength, humility and opportunity to know myself.”

Sheikha Asma Al Thani also expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people during her campaign. She wore a Palestinian flag on her clothing during her campaign. In another post after summiting Nanga Parbat, she shared a poem by renowned Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, writing: “This is for those who are still standing today, for the lives that have been lost, for the voices that have been silenced, and for the fear that is attached to tomorrow.”
“May freedom find its way and justice be no longer delayed.”
