The True Post (Web News) Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has called on the Town of Jasper to withdraw an independent report sharply criticizing her government’s handling of last summer’s wildfires and issue a formal apology.
Smith described the report, which surveyed more than 300 firefighting personnel, as “unfair” and “untrue,” stating it undermines Alberta’s significant efforts including the deployment of firefighters and $181 million in recovery support—while unfairly blaming the province for delayed federal coordination and failure to clear dead trees that fueled the blaze
The Jasper administration responded that Alberta’s support was appreciated and emphasized that the review aims to strengthen future emergency planning rather than place blame
Smith also urged Parks Canada to “swallow its ego” and enter a mutual-aid agreement to avoid jurisdictional confusion in future wildfire responses
