THE TRUE POST (Web News) – August is set to bring welcome relief for many employees and students across Pakistan, with a combination of public holidays and weekends expected to provide extended breaks throughout the month.
According to the 2026 calendar, two public holidays are expected at the federal level. Combined with regular weekends, many workers and students could enjoy significantly more time off than usual.
Up to 12 Days Off for Many Employees
August 2026 includes five Saturdays and five Sundays, giving employees who observe a five-day workweek a total of 10 weekend holidays.
When the expected public holidays are included, eligible employees could enjoy up to 12 days off during the month.

Three-Day Independence Day Weekend
Pakistan’s Independence Day will be observed on Friday, August 14, 2026.
For employees whose offices are closed on both Saturdays and Sundays, this creates a three-day long weekend, covering August 14, 15, and 16.
The extended break is expected to boost domestic travel, tourism, and recreational activities across the country.
Employees with Sunday-Only Weekend
Workers whose organizations observe only Sunday as the weekly holiday are expected to receive:
- Five Sunday holidays
- Two expected public holidays
This would bring their total to seven days off during August, although the exact number may vary depending on individual workplace policies.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi Holiday Also Expected
The second major public holiday expected in August is Eid Milad-un-Nabi (12 Rabi’ al-Awwal).
Based on current lunar calendar estimates, the occasion is expected to fall on August 25 or 26, 2026. However, the exact date will depend on the official moon sighting.
Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will announce the confirmed date, after which the federal government is expected to issue an official public holiday notification.
Moon Sighting Will Determine Final Date
If 1 Rabi’ al-Awwal begins on August 15, then 12 Rabi’ al-Awwal would fall on August 26, making Wednesday the likely public holiday.
Officials emphasize that the final schedule remains subject to the official moon sighting announcement.

Students are also expected to benefit from the holiday schedule, particularly with the Independence Day break and regular weekends.
