Islamabad: An Islamabad district court has declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub a proclaimed offender after he repeatedly failed to appear before the court in connection with the November 26 protest case.
The order was issued by Judicial Magistrate Shaista Kundi, who also approved permanent arrest warrants against the senior PTI leader following his continued absence despite multiple court summons.
Court Orders Permanent Arrest Warrants
During the hearing, the court observed that Omar Ayub had been summoned on several occasions but did not appear before the court.
Citing his repeated non-compliance with court orders, the judge declared him a proclaimed offender and directed law enforcement authorities to execute permanent arrest warrants in accordance with the law.
The ruling allows authorities to arrest Omar Ayub and produce him before the court so that proceedings in the case can continue.
Case Linked to November 26 Protest
The case stems from the November 26 protest in Islamabad, where authorities accused PTI leaders and supporters of violating Section 144, which prohibits public gatherings under certain circumstances.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at Secretariat Police Station, the accused are alleged to have violated government restrictions and obstructed law enforcement officials during the protest.
Legal Proceedings Continue
The court noted that repeated opportunities had been provided to the accused to appear before the judiciary, but his continued absence left no option other than declaring him a proclaimed offender.
The case is one of several legal proceedings involving PTI leaders and workers following the November 26 demonstrations.
PTI Leaders Face Multiple Cases
Several PTI leaders and party workers continue to face legal action in connection with protests held in Islamabad and other parts of Pakistan.
Hearings in these cases are ongoing in various courts, with authorities continuing investigations and judicial proceedings related to alleged violations during the demonstrations.
