Renowned motivational speaker and public figure Qasim Ali Shah attended a historic programme organized by Al Mustafa Welfare Alberta in Calgary, where a large number of members of the Pakistani community gathered to hear his message on personal development, success and positive social change.
The event was organized by Al Mustafa Welfare Canada in honour of Qasim Ali Shah and was held at Sultan Banquet Hall in Calgary. The gathering brought together prominent figures from the Pakistani community, including political, social, business and religious representatives.
Qasim Ali Shah was invited to speak to overseas Pakistanis about welfare initiatives and services being carried out around the world and to encourage members of the community to play a constructive role in society.
Focus on Self-Improvement and Personal Responsibility
During his address, Qasim Ali Shah spoke about the importance of improving one’s own character and behaviour before attempting to change society.
Drawing on teachings from the Quran and Sunnah, he discussed how people can improve their lives through self-assessment, identifying their weaknesses and making conscious efforts to overcome them.
He used the example of a Persian carpet to explain that human beings cannot achieve perfection. Just as a carpet may intentionally contain an imperfect corner, people also have shortcomings and should recognize them rather than considering themselves flawless.
According to Shah, talent alone is not enough to achieve success. Hard work, continuous practice, discipline and commitment to a chosen field are essential for turning potential into achievement.
Social Change Begins With the Individual
Qasim Ali Shah emphasized that meaningful social change begins with individuals.
He said negative traits such as anger, arrogance, jealousy, intolerance, negativity, grudges and constantly finding faults in others can weaken individuals, families and society as a whole.
He shared a story to illustrate how people often want to change the world, their country, city, homes or even their children while overlooking the need to change themselves first.
He encouraged the audience to focus on self-correction and personal accountability as the first step toward creating a healthier family and society.
Message About Social Media and Sharing Information
The motivational speaker also highlighted the importance of verifying information before sharing it, particularly in an era when social media allows news and claims to spread rapidly.
He urged people to exercise greater responsibility and self-control when dealing with information and emphasized the importance of patience, forgiveness and accountability in everyday life.
Advice for Overseas Pakistanis
Addressing overseas Pakistanis, Shah also spoke about maintaining a balance between professional and personal responsibilities.
He said that while earning money and building a secure future are important, people should not overlook their parents, children and close relationships.
He encouraged members of the community to give time and attention to their families and loved ones while pursuing their professional and financial goals.

At the conclusion of the programme, Nisar Kallu of Al Mustafa Welfare Canada and Imtiaz Ahmed of Al Mustafa Welfare Alberta thanked the guests, participants and sponsors for their support.

The programme was hosted by Imtiaz Ahmed’s son Talha and daughter, who also played a role in welcoming and engaging with guests.
The event concluded with a message of personal responsibility: while an individual may not be able to change the entire world, improving oneself can become the beginning of positive change within the family and wider society.
