Date: October 5, 2026 The True Post (Web News) —Ahead of the snap provincial election scheduled for October 24 in the Canadian province of British Columbia, the New Democratic Party (NDP), led by David Eby, has failed to field candidates in all 93 electoral districts.
According to the province’s election authority, the NDP has nominated candidates in 92 ridings, while the party has not fielded a candidate in the Peace River North riding.
One Riding Left Vacant
According to Elections BC, the provincial NDP has nominated candidates in 92 of the province’s 93 electoral districts. Peace River North is the only riding where the party has been unable to establish a candidate presence.
Following this development, the British Columbia Conservative Party has become the only major party with a full slate of candidates across all 93 electoral districts.
Conservatives Field Full Slate
The British Columbia Conservative Party has fielded candidates in all 93 ridings. In a statement, the party described its complete candidate list as a sign of public enthusiasm for the party.
The party said that fielding candidates in every riding demonstrates strong motivation among its workers and supporters to participate in the electoral contest.
Presenting a full slate of candidates in a snap election is considered organizationally significant for any political party because it requires finding candidates in every riding, completing the nomination process and organizing election campaigns across the province.
Green Party’s Position
The British Columbia Green Party has nominated candidates in 73 ridings. This means the Green Party is also well short of fielding candidates in every electoral district in the province.
Despite this, the party is contesting elections in various ridings in an effort to maintain its presence in provincial politics. The number of Green candidates is significantly lower than those fielded by the NDP and Conservatives.
Centre BC
Centre BC has fielded candidates in 35 ridings, two more than One BC.
Both parties have emerged as political groups that recently separated from the provincial Conservative Party. Their presence has highlighted the possibility of division within the right-wing vote and political support during the provincial election.
One BC
One BC has nominated 33 candidates, two fewer than Centre BC. Although the number of candidates fielded by both new parties is lower than that of the major parties, their presence could make electoral contests more complicated in some ridings.
The number of candidates in a provincial election also indicates the extent to which a political party has been able to establish an organizational structure to compete directly in different electoral districts.
NDP’s Position
The provincial NDP has described its candidate list as more diverse compared with those of other parties.
In a statement, the party said the backgrounds and diversity of its candidates reflect different communities across British Columbia.
Although the party has been unable to nominate candidates in all 93 ridings, the NDP says its election team represents different regions and segments of the province.
Challenge for David Eby
The election represents an important political stage for the provincial NDP under the leadership of David Eby. Despite not having a candidate in one riding, the party maintains a strong electoral structure across most of the province and has fielded candidates in 92 seats.
Conservatives Have Candidates in Every Riding
On the other hand, the Conservative Party’s presence in all 93 ridings gives it the opportunity to compete directly in every electoral district.
Snap Election
The people of British Columbia will elect their representatives in the snap provincial election on October 24. The current number of candidates shows that different political parties in the province are working to mobilize their respective voter bases.
Competition among the Conservatives, NDP and Green Party will be particularly important in various ridings, while the presence of Centre BC and One BC could also influence election results in some areas.
Political Landscape
The Conservative Party entering the race with a complete slate of candidates while the NDP is leaving one riding uncontested has become a focus of attention during the election campaign.
However, the number of candidates alone cannot determine whether a party will succeed or fail, as the ultimate decision will be made by voters through their ballots.
As the election approaches, all parties will seek to reach as many voters as possible, highlight local issues and gain support for their political platforms.
Only after voting on October 24 will it become clear how much advantage the Conservative Party gains from contesting all 93 ridings, how many seats the NDP secures through its 92 candidates, and to what extent parties such as the Greens, Centre BC and One BC succeed in establishing a presence in the provincial legislature.
